BRICK POP WARNER TEAMS START OFF THE 2006 SEASON

| BRICK It was a rainy and soggy weekend but still it did not stop many people from coming out to see the annual Mayor's Cup games hosted this year by the Brick Memorial Mustangs vs. the Brick Dragons.
On the night of August 26, the night's game lineup had the Midget Division showdown with a 14-8 Mustangs victory with Nick Castellano's 85 yard punt return resulting in a touchdown to pull the Mustangs ahead with under five minutes to go in the game.
Other scrimmages on August 26 were the Pee Wee Green match up against Freehold resulting in an 1812 Mustangs win. The Jr. Midgets scrimmaged against the Toms River Little Indians. "The Mustangs team is looking forward to a good season and this weekend was a nice start," said Michael DiGuilmi, Football Commissioner. The Jr. Midgets scored four touchdowns, three on offense by Nolan Ryan, one on defense after a good sack by Jahmere Calhoun. Michael DiGuilmi recovered the fumble and ran it in for the last touchdown. Shane Punuska, Ryan Kenmure, Logan Smith and Dave Santos kept the defense tight for the Mustangs shutting out Toms River 28-0.
The August 27 games began with four Mitey Mite games that resulted in an even split of a two game victory for both organizations.
In the Jr. Pee Wee Division, the Mustangs Gold team took the victory 6-0. "It was a great team effort and was a hard fought battle and both teams should be proud of the way they played," said head coach, Ken Cooke. Jr. Pee Wee Green's Dylan Heath ran a 65 yard touchdown and the Mustangs defense held tight to keep the Dragons scoreless with a 19-0 victory.
In the Pee Wee Division, the Dragons took the victory 8-0.
Brick Memorial Pop Warner would like to thank the Brick Dragons Pop Warner for what is always an exciting showdown for both organizations.
The Dragons and Mustangs would also like to thank town council President, Anthony Matthews for his support to both sides and the presentation of the trophies to all the teams.
