Mantoloking Road Targeted For Repaving Project By Catherine Snipe
By this time next year, your drive on Mantoloking Road just might be a little smoother.
Road resurfacing projects continue in the township, with one county road getting a fresh surface from the county.
The Board of Chosen Freeholders yesterday voted on the contract to resurface portions of Route 528, better known as Mantoloking Road. The winning bid totaled $914,200.06, with the lowest qualified bidder in Stavola Contracting Co. of Eatontown, N.J.
The county will resurface Mantoloking Road from Burton Parkway to Mantoloking Bridge.
Though temperatures are dropping, road crews can still resurface streets, though pot holes can only be packed with the dry patch process - a temporary fix.
Instead, resurfacing will even out the roads. The project spans over several miles of traffic on the county road.
The portion to be resurfaced runs through the Breton Woods and West Mantoloking sections of Brick Township.
The Mantoloking Road area is one spot the county is heavily involved in, with the Mantoloking Bridge project the cornerstone of those efforts. The construction of a brand new bridge was completed in June, a 1,168-foot span designed to allow more boats to pass beneath it, slashing the number of bridge openings required and thereby keeping traffic flowing.
Other county projects in store for Brick include the reconstruction of Adamston Road, also off of Mantoloking Road. The multi-million dollar project is in this year's county capital budget, with a bid awarded recently for the work.
Other portions of Route 528, which extends through Lakewood to Jackson Township and Plumsted, continue to be improved. In September, Route 528 between Route 9 to Gudz Road in Lakewood Township began its reconstruction. Traffic was impacted, as lane shifts were in place during the project, according to the county engineering department. A commuter traffic alert is in place there until further notice.
In addition, the county completed the resurfacing of Route 70, with a several mile stretch that began in Manchester and proceeded through Lakewood to Brick. Lanes closed for several weeks along the busy highway, including sections near the Garden State Parkway entrance.
