Laurelton Heights Road Renovations Set For Winter Completion By Catherine Snipe
When it's all over, Laurelton Heights' roads will have all been reconstructed and/or improved.
The township began Phase 5 of the reconstruction of roadways in the Laurelton Heights section of Brick Township, in the final phase to improve the area's roads.
The township project, once complete, will have tended to all the roads in the area, meaning 100 percent of the roadways were part of the reconstruction project, said Elissa Commins, assistant township engineer.
The area was split up into five different zones, which each phase focusing on a specific zone. Phase 5 surrounds Taylor Road.
The project focuses on drainage issues and other problems surrounding the roadways. Crews spent the project focusing on drainage, but also milled the asphalt pavement. Phase 5 is expected to be complete in the winter, Commins said.
The project's full scope of the roadway reconstruction efforts began in 2002.
The area was severely deteriorated, according to Commins. However, once complete the roadways will be evened out and safer to drive on.
Phase 5 focuses on the Taylor Road area, which will receive an overlay of the road, she said.
The money for the project comes from a combination of township and state funding. Phase 4 received $100,000 in supplemental funding from the state, for example.
The township contract for Phase 4 came under budget and was reduced from $199,931.76 to $172,820.
The money is for the final phase of Laurelton Heights roadway improvements, including drainage improvements and new roadways in Laurelton Heights on Keiser and Taylor boulevards and Barb Lane.
The project is a four-year one, partially funded by the Department of Transportation.
In previous phases, roadways improved included Timothy Street, Wildwood Road and Richard Street.
Phase 5 was overseen by Lucas Brothers, Inc. in Morganville, N.J. The final phase's contract comes to more than $304,000.
