Brick Man Killed In Parkway Accident By Catherine Snipe
A township man died Sunday in a Garden State Parkway automobile accident near a Brick township portion of the highway.
Joseph Michael Del Mauro, 41, of Brick, died Sunday, November 5, on the Garden State Parkway in a one-car accident.
Del Mauro was traveling northbound near mile 93.5, when his sedan left the roadway and struck a tree at approximately 4:30 p.m., police said.
It's not the only fatality in that area this year. Ocean County's stretch of the Garden State Parkway had eight fatal accidents, according to the state police statistics.
Two of them were in Brick, at miles 93.1 and 94.1. Another was in Lakewood at mile 91.2, and three were nearby in Toms River at 86, 86.9 and 82.7 mile markers.
Ocean County has had 49 fatalities on its roads this year so far. The previous fatality was also in Bricktown, on Burrsville Road on October 16.
Statewide, there have been 577 fatal accidents totaling 621 deaths this year, according to the state police.
Del Mauro was a supervisor for the Essex County Welfare Office at the East Orange office and moved to Brick Township three years ago. He was born in Belleville, he lived in Union most of his life.
He was predeceased by his mother, Virginia Milano Del Mauro; a sister, Maria Del Mauro; and his grandmother, Ida Scott Del Mauro. Surviving are a daughter, Daniella Del Mauro; his father, Felix Del Mauro; his grandfather, Joseph Del Mauro; his former wife, Antonnella; his uncle and aunt, Joseph and Joy Del Mauro; and his fiancee, Kathy Pirrone.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union. The funeral will be at 8 a.m. Friday from the funeral home, followed by a 9:15 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Michael Church, Union. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
