| NEPTUNE - Richard A. Amdur, Esq., of Colts Neck and his family recently made a gift of $1 million to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and its landmark $300 million expansion and renovation project.
In appreciation of their support, Jersey Shore dedicated its Ambulatory Care Center in honor the Amdur family. The newly named Amdur Ambulatory Care Center was unveiled in the fall, at a ceremony attended by hospital trustees, Jersey Shore physicians and staff, friends of the Amdur family and other Jersey Shore benefactors.
"The Amdur family truly cares about the health of this community and has been loyal and strong supporters of Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Meridian Health for many years," said John K. Lloyd, President of Meridian Health. "We are truly grateful for their tremendous generosity and support and it is our honor and privilege to dedicate the Amdur Ambulatory Care Center in their honor."
The Amdur Ambulatory Care Center at Jersey Shore offers advanced outpatient services such as same day surgery, outpatient radiation therapy, chemotherapy, cancer treatments, cardiac rehabilitation, breast health services and diagnostic imaging services such as x-ray, MRI and PET scans.
Among their many contributions to Jersey Shore and Meridian, Richard A. Amdur has served on the organizations board of trustees for many years, currently serving as chair of the Meridian Hospitals Corporation Board of Trustees. His wife, Mary, has also been a strong and active supporter for many years. Her father, Dr. James Percy Pregnall was a practicing physician at Jersey Shore and Mary and her mother were active in the hospital auxiliaries.
"Jersey Shore University Medical Center has developed into one of the leading academic medical centers in the tri-state region, providing exceptional access to advanced medical care for our entire community," said Amdur. "My family and I are so proud of Jersey Shore and Meridian's many accomplishments and are very excited of what is still to come as part of the new expansion project."
Jersey Shore's expansion project includes a new patient care pavilion featuring all private rooms and an innovative model of nursing care, a state-of-the art diagnostic and treatment building offering the latest in diagnostic technology, surgical suites and a new intensive care unit dedicated to cardiac patients. Also included in the expansion project is a new emergency department and trauma center with the ability to treat more than 100,000 patients, a new parking garage, patient access improvements and extensive renovations throughout existing buildings. The Amdur Ambulatory Care Center will expand its services and access for patients.
"With medical advances, more and more procedures and treatments are now safely and effectively performed quickly on an outpatient basis, without an overnight stay at the hospital," said Steven Littleson, President of Jersey Shore University Medical Center. "Ambulatory and outpatient care is one of the fastest growing areas in health care today, and so it is especially fitting that we dedicate the Ambulatory Care Center in the Amdur family's honor as it is often the 'front door' to our hospital for so many people in our community."
