Master Gardeners Get A Green Thumb

| TOMS RIVER - Some of the area's best gardeners certainly have a green thumb. They were recently recognized for their efforts.
Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari congratulated 18 new graduates of the Ocean County Master Gardener Program on January 28, at Rutgers Agricultural Building in Toms River. The theme of the graduation was the Hawaiian Islands, and veteran Master Gardeners dressed accordingly.
The Rutgers Master Gardeners are trained and certified volunteers who assist Rutgers cooperative research and extension personnel in providing horticulture information to the residents of Ocean County.
The graduates received 60 hours of training in horticulture and were required to return 60 hours of volunteer service to become certified. They volunteered in areas that included Ocean County Park greenhouse and gardens, help line, tick ID, plant and pest diagnostics, educational/display garden and outreach programs.
Graduates of Ocean County Master Gardeners Class of 2006 are Eileen Arnold, Donna Franzoso, Vel Gamble, Cathy Gillissie, E. Berry Jones, Suzanne Keane, Jayne Kinsell, Allen Kozikowski, Leona Kozikowski, Michele Noon-Uher, Clara La Parch, Mel Russen, Jennifer Seeger, Kristine Stadler, Mary Townsend, Marilyn Ventura, Rosemarie Wood and Holly Yocum.
