Breakwater Beach Waterpark Rides Wave Of National Fame

The smooth current carries patrons along the waterpark's lazy river ride.
SEASIDE HEIGHTS - The rest of the country

recently learned what shore area residents have known for years: Breakwater Beach Waterpark is a hit with families and thrill-seekers alike.

Breakwater Beach Waterpark in Seaside Heights was featured in the national trade magazine World Waterpark with a full color page introduction entitled, "Lots of fun in the Jersey Sun."

The magazine credits Breakwater Beach with bringing a renaissance to the area with their multi-million dollar expansion and remodeling of the 2.5-acre facility.

Receiving national recognition for an attraction in our own backyard is music to the ears of Ocean County officials.

"It is always nice to see a quality venue recognized by its peers," said Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, who

serves as tourism liaison. "Breakwater Beach certainly

enhances a family vacation in Seaside Heights."

After the Storino family purchased the Seaside Heights property years ago, emphasis was placed on making it more family oriented. Such enhancements during the first phase of the project included an aqua-play rainforest area incorporating a 400-gallon bucket overflowing with spills and chills for the kids every two minutes; a cove for toddlers and their parents; along with soft play slides with interactive spraying fountains.

For the more adventurous, a six-lane water-mat racing slide, dubbed "Patriot's Plunge" was also added, while an existing lazy river was expanded to include interactive elements and new twists and turns with the installation of a wave generator known as "The Krazy Krick."

Phase two of the expansion project was completed two years ago with the construction of a dry land go-kart track, and the high rise "Double Tube" ride was kicked-up another notch when it was elevated from 35-feet to more than 50-feet high.

While phase three is currently still in the planning stages, receiving the attention from a nationally recognized publication is an absolute honor for the waterpark, said Louis Cirgiliano, general manager of Breakwater Beach.

"We are proud that our facility was selected for a World Waterpark feature and want to ensure Breakwater Beach continues to be a modern and premier family attraction," said Cirgiliano.

In addition to water activities, the facility includes a full-service food area, snack carts in varied locations and a gift shop, with of course, Slider, an aquatic otter mascot, routinely seen strolling around the park meeting, greeting and posing for photos.
