PREPARING FOR THE 2010 CENSUS COUNT

Those who will be conducting the census recently took classes to prepare them for the big project.
OCEAN COUNTY - Municipal representatives recently attended the first briefing in Ocean County to start preparations for the 2010 decennial census count.

The Northeast Midwest Institute prepared a list of 50 top formula grant agencies which, in part, use statistics from the U.S. Census in their decision making processes. The list included a broad array of federal agencies under the jurisdiction of the agriculture, education, justice, labor and transportation departments, environmental protection agency, health and human services and housing and urban development.

The census statistics also are used by charitable institutions funding various nonprofit agencies, by schools to project future needs and by businesses in their marketing plans and for business loans, among a myriad of other uses.
Noemi Mendez, geographer for the U.S. Census Bureau in the Philadelphia region, discusses plans for the upcoming census with David McKeon, Ocean County Planning Director.
