GYPSY MOTHS SWARM REGION
JACKSON - It's that time of the year again. Plagues of gypsy moths are devouring foliage and killing trees throughout the Ocean and Monmouth County area. While some towns have minimized the problem by participating in a federal spraying program, Jackson residents have been feeling the crunch since officials there opted to bow out of paying for gypsy moth spraying. Some properties are littered with the furry pests, their trees eaten and cars covered in droppings. The moths should last just a few more weeks, when the caterpillars will cocoon and eventually turn into moths.
