BRINGING HISTORY ALIVE IN MONMOUTH
MONMOUTH COUNTY - Dressed in authentic 18th century garb, camped for the weekend in the summer heat using authentic 18th century gear, dozens upon dozens of re-enactors put their all into bringing history alive at Monmouth Battlefield State Park on June 23 and 24. In a weekend-long showcase of the area's ties to the American Revolution, vendors sold period wares, displays and presentations educated visitors and dozens of rifles and cannons echoed into the afternoon during the highlight of each day, the reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth itself. The Battle of Monmouth is best known for the legend of Molly Pitcher. During the reenactment, soldiers on both sides "fought" for over an hour, the battle surging back and forth across the field at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, complete with cannon volleys, horse charges and fierce combat. The reenactment has drawn hundreds of onlookers for years.
