Adamston Road Slated For More Construction Work
By Catherine Galioto

The county is midway through a million-dollar improvement to Adamston Road in Brick, so expect delays and bumpy roads for more than a month.

The Ocean County Engineering Department is overseeing the reconstruction of Adamston Road, off Mantoloking Road and the road of the VFW Building. As crews restore about 1.2 miles of road, traffic will continue to be alternating traffic until further notice, according to the county engineering department. New curbing and upgraded drainage are also included in the contract.

The area under construction is Adamston Road from Drum Point Road to just before Mantoloking Road.

At a cost of $1.033 million, the project is the latest in a series of road projects from the county.

County officials said the aging road was in need of better drainage and a general reconstruction. The project includes: New drainage, a stage that ripped up the road but is now completed; new curbing, which is underway through the end of the project; restoration, which began July 23; and milling and paving the road, which has yet to be scheduled.

The county hopes to complete the project in November. Lucas Brothers Inc. of Morganville are the contractors.

The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved the project in its capital budget this year and last year approved the sale of bonds to fund it.

The Adamston Road revamp is not the only road in the area receiving the county's attention.

"This is an example of the effort we make to keep our roads modern and up-to-date," said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly in a prepared statement. "Every year the Freeholders invest up to $50 million to ensure that our roads are safe and well maintained."

The county also completed the resurfacing of Mantoloking Road from Burton Avenue to the New Mantoloking Bridge.

At a cost of $914,200, the county milled, resurfaced and marked the road beginning this spring. That project is complete.

Next on the county's radar is the repaving of Forge Pond Road. That road is among six county roadways splitting a $1.12 million contract freeholders approved recently. This round of projects, in six different towns, adds to the late summer/fall construction schedule under the engineering department.

Crews will resurface Forge Pond Road, off of Route 88 in the Laurelton Gardens section of Brick.

The six-road contract will also pay to repave Bridge Avenue from Route 88 to just west of Beaver Dam Road in Point Pleasant Borough; River Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach; Ocean Avenue from Porter Avenue to E. Street in Seaside Park; Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor; and Railroad Avenue, Eagleswood Township.

The contract was awarded to Earle Asphalt Company of Farmingdale.

Kelly said that at any one time, up to $50 million in road construction projects are underway in Ocean County.
