Brick Native Is Also A Country Music Legend
By Catherine Galioto

Brick's own Jim Murphy is a Country and Bluegrass legend - and now he's a member of the American Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame.
Forty years of Country and Bluegrass, and now Brick's own Jim Murphy is in the American Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame.

He's the first New Jerseyan to earn the honor.

On August 30, Brick Township will celebrate resident and Country music star Jim Murphy at the final concert of SummerFest 2007.

To further celebrate his induction into the American Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame, the leader of Jim Murphy and the Pine Bar- ons recently received a mayoral proclamation and council resolution commending him. It's like the Rock and Roll hall of fame, but for old time Country musicians in genres such as Bluegrass.

"For decades, Jim Murphy has been entertaining the Jersey Shore. His induction into the hall of fame is a well-deserved honor," said Mayor Dan Kelly in a prepared statement.

The township council also took to commending Murphy at its recent meeting, approving a resolution in his honor.

Murphy is a fixture of New Jersey's Country music scene, having played nearly every month at places such as Albert Music Hall in Waretown.

The band itself is 35 years old. Murphy has also hosted numerous Country music radio shows.

The National Traditional Country Music Association oversees the hall of fame, picking among musicians, radio DJs and promoters who have worked in the genre and are influential. The association calls Murphy one of New Jersey's most recognizable singers. His band's music features send-ups to the Garden State, but they also play the classics in countless concerts year-round in the tri-state area. The band performed in Ohio for the hall of fame induction.

Murphy, a longtime Brick resident, said he loves the state. In 2005, Jim Murphy and the Pine Barons recorded Jim's ode to the Garden State with "Go New Jersey" - a record filled with songs about New Jersey history.

SummerFest 2007 closes with Country Night on August 30, featuring The Glimmergrass Band and the feature performer Marty Stuart. Marty Stuart is a multiple Grammy-award winning Country music artist whose career spans four decades. He has worked with the likes of Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Steve Earle and Willie Nelson among many others. He recently opened for The White Stripes at Madison Square Garden. The show begins at 7 p.m. A fireworks display will follow the concert

The hall of fame induction was held August 28.
