Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is diagnosed in at least 5,000 babies in the United States annually, and while there is no cure, this disorder is 100 percent preventable. A child with FASD may experience learning disabilities, a short attention span, hyperactivity and other behavioral problems. Smoking while pregnant also carries similar consequences such as still births, preterm delivery, low birth weight and cerebral palsy.
The Family Resource Network is a family focused, community-based organization that aims to provide individual and family support throughout the life span of people with disabilities and chronic illness. They are comprised of four affiliate organizations; Autism Family Services of New Jersey, Caregivers of New Jersey, The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey and the Family Support Center of New Jersey.
