Ocean County Coin Club Holds Mini Show And Exhibit
POINT PLEASANT - Over 175 individuals attended the Ocean County Coin Club's Annual Mini-Show and Exhibits on April 17 at the Ocean Fire House in Point Pleasant Beach. "The show was only a three-hour event they we hold every year at this time in recognition of National Coin Week," said Club President Jim Majoros. "We hold this show in addition to our regular full-day show in September that is at the Laurelton Fire House in Brick," he added.
Bourse Director Dennis Berube said, "I was amazed at seeing this many at our show, which is basically an open house for the club. Fifteen dealers were available to assist the visitors with buying, selling and/or trading coins, paper money and medals."
Adding to the interest were nine cases of exhibits that the club's juniors, also called young numismatists, displayed. The displays were Coins Around the World, Guatemala Money, Federal Reserve District Dollars, A Walk Through History, Japanese Money, The Bald Eagle, Bicentennial Coinage and My Canadian Coins. All juniors who exhibited received a U.S. Mint Proof Set for their time and efforts to accomplish their display. The juniors also had fun with the club's treasure hunt, where they have to locate club individuals wearing a badge to receive their coin or paper money treasure.
The club meets the first and third Thursdays of every month. They will not have a meeting on May 15. The meetings are held at Ocean Fire House, St. Louis and Arnold avenues in Point Pleasant Beach. The junior portion of the meeting begins at 6:45 p.m., and the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Education and auctions are part of the meetings.
