Girl Scout Troop #409 Announces Successful Book Drive
 | | Junior Girl Scouts collected boxes of books for various community efforts. |
| BRICK - Holy Family School Girl Scout Junior Troop #409 recently assisted the Chambers Bridge residents of Brick to build a library for their senior citizen residents. Under the guidance of Leader Sandy Terracciano and Assistant Leader Carol Granger, the seven girls in the troop collected 25 boxes of books. The book collection began as a part of the process of the Junior Scouts earning their books badge. Books collected were to have a copyright date of 2004 or later and biographies of any copyright date.
According to Janice Caiazzo, coordinator of the library project at the senior citizen residence, "All were amazed at the amount of books the girls collected in such a short period of time. She further stated that the donation was greatly appreciated, and the books will be a nice addition to our library."
"There was such an abundance of books," said Mrs. Tarracciano, "that we ended up shipping some to our soldiers in Iraq and brought some to the Brick Animal Shelter for their thrift shop to sell. They buy food and supplies for the animals with the money they raise." Ms. Caiazzo was grateful that a project, which began to assist the senior citizens, was so successful that it expanded to help others in need as well.
These Girl Scouts, students at Holy Family School, exemplify the school motto of Strong in Faith, Joyful in Hope and Active in Charity.
