Harsh Words For Former Mayor

I never thought that the time would come when I ever agreed with Dan Newman Sr., but it has; however, it has an asterisk attached to it. Now I don't feel so bad about it.

I read a (letter to the editor) that was printed on April 10, 2008, which was sent to the Brick Council and also the newspapers entitled, "Council Not Acting Fast Enough on Nydam Pension." This (letter) infers that the Brick Council has not worked fast enough to prevent a pension for former thief Jack Nydam, who was the director of Public Works for Brick.

Newman Sr. goes on to say that he is extremely disappointed and deeply hurt that the comments by Brick Councilman Brian DeLuca went ignored. He goes on to say that he was not given the courtesy and respect that a former mayor of Brick should have received. For this I say, if you want respect, you must first demonstrate it, Mr. Person of many hats and political appointments. You make me laugh.

I too agree with the former Mr. Everything of Brick politics in his quest to see that Jack Nydam does not get one cent from the pension board. As a paid professional firefighter who worked 27 years on a job I loved, attaining the rank of captain and finally retiring 20 years ago, I know the value of a good pension and feel hurt that a confessed thief will get one also. I'm sure that the wheels of justice are working on this at this very moment. Our council members are good, smart thoughtful people, and we will see the light in the near future; of this, I'm confident.

As far as you, Dan Newman Sr., stating that you did not receive any courtesy from our council, I'm sure that courtesy comes with the demonstrated ability of being truthful and straight forward with others while performing your political endeavors in the past. A perfect example is the sewer fiasco hookup, something that lasted about 20 years and of which, you (allegedly) still owe past interest. Do you remember this? I'll bet you would like to forget it; I haven't. For this, you will never be ignored; make book on it.

Bottom line is that you never complained about another crook, named Joe Scarpelli, when the word got out that he was to receive his pension after getting out of prison. I ask why the silence on your part with this person? Could it be that you were his mentor? Correct me if I'm wrong; Joe Scarpelli had his berth in the political arena during your reign as mayor of our township, and you took him by the hand and nurtured him into being a political figure, who finally was caught with his hands in the cookie jar and is now in jail. When he gets out, he will get around $300 a month in pension benefits but nothing towards health insurance. Our council has made sure of this. How come you have not written about this?

So Dan Newman Sr., although I agree with you on the Nydam decision, I also think that you should be a topic on the council agenda; however, you must earn the courtesy you want so badly, but a reply would serve no cause or correct anything coming from a person who is still allegedly in arrears to my township of Brick, New Jersey.

The only correspondence you should receive is a bill for back interest, nothing else.
Art Sholty,
Brick
